South Korea has one of the highest rates of heavy episodic drinking in Asia. Soju — cheap, widely available, and deeply embedded in work culture — drives consumption that far exceeds what the statistics suggest. In a crowd of 2,000 Korean adults, roughly 200 are considered heavy drinkers by WHO standards.
